New Video Conferencing Features: Waiting Room, Transcription, and Closed Captioning
Waiting Room
- Moderators can enable the Waiting Room feature for all Workstorm Video Conferences or audio-only meetings.
- Once enabled, the moderator will approve or reject any attendees requesting to join the meeting from the Attendees menu.
- Moderators can enable this feature from (1) the Workstorm Calendar when creating new meeting invites or (2) the Moderator menu in the meeting’s toolbar once the meeting has started.
- The meeting organizer can enable the Waiting Room feature after the original invite is sent from the Workstorm Calendar.
- While in the Waiting Room, users can configure their meeting settings, including turning their microphone and camera on or off by default when they join, choosing Virtual Background preferences, and selecting the proper camera, speaker, and microphone devices to use during the meeting.
- Users with Workstorm accounts who are signed out have the option to sign-in to their account without leaving the Waiting Room.
- This release updates iOS and Android mobile and tablet apps to support the Waiting Room feature.
Transcription and Closed Captioning
- All meeting attendees now have the ability to enable transcription and closed captioning for their meeting session.
- The transcription will track who is speaking and automatically transcribe the audio.
- Transcriptions are displayed from the Transcription menu in the meeting’s feature toolbar.
- The entire history of the dialogue can be viewed from the time that the transcription feature was enabled.
- Closed captioning offers the ability to see captions in real time and will display the speaker’s name and three lines of captioning at a time from the widget centered at the bottom of the window.
- To enable closed captioning, transcription must also be enabled.
- Both features are enabled on a per attendee basis, so if an attendee chooses to enable either feature, it is only enabled for that person and not for all the attendees in the meeting.
User Experience & User Interface Improvements
- The organizer of a Video Conference or audio-only call will remain the moderator, even if other attendees join first.
- Moderators of Video Conference or audio-only meetings can choose to end the call for everyone, which forces all attendees to leave the call.
- When hovering over a Direct Message or Channel from the Messages menu and clicking the ellipsis menu, users will see an updated design.
- This includes an improved interface of menu options and an updated settings menu for Channel Admins.
- Managed Folders with more than five conversations will display all Channels available in the automatically created Workspace.
- Embedded links in Channels and Direct Messages have improved preview viewing.
- Updated dark mode improves search for files in the Workstorm and integrated document management systems, as well as files uploaded to Direct Messages and Channels.
Miscellaneous
- Squashed bugs.
