Workstorm allows you to protect and restrict how files are accessed and shared. There are two primary ways to protect files. The first is on a file and the second is within a Workstream.
File Access Controls
Workstorm gives File Owners the option to set a permission level when they share or upload a file to a Message or Task.

The table below describes the breakdown of permissions. When files are shared or uploaded, Download is the default selected option.

Note: These access controls do not override permissions for files that originate from a document management system (DMS), including but not limited to, OneDrive, Dropbox, or iManage. Workstorm does not change any access or permissions that a company sets within their DMS. For example, if a person does not have permissions in your iManage system to view a document, they will not have the ability to view the link if it is shared in Workstorm.
Workstream Files
Streams are private by default and files that are added into a Stream’s task, channel, or file repository cannot be shared outside the Stream (except for the File Owner). The file access controls described above also apply to a Stream but with additional restriction options. For example, if a File Owner selects Share, Stream members are restricted to only sharing that file within the Stream.
There are additional methods to further restrict access to Stream files depending on where the files are uploaded to.
Streams Channel
- Files shared directly to a channel are only accessible to the members of that specific channel.
Streams Task
- Files attached to a task are only accessible to the task owner, assignee, or watcher.
All files added to the main Files section of the Stream will be available to any member of the Stream, including both internal and external members.
