How to set up Chrome for Video Conferencing and Screen sharing

Instructions for updating web browser settings for video conferencing, screen sharing and other Workstorm features

For members using the web-based version of Workstorm (rather than the Desktop App or Mobile App), you may need to update your browser settings and download the WebRTC plugin for optimal functionality of Workstorm’s features, including Notifications, Video Conferencing and Screen Sharing. Updating your browser settings is fast and easy, and it allows you to utilize the full range of Workstorm’s features on the web.

This article provides step-by-step instructions for updating browser settings and downloading the WebRTC plugin in Google Chrome, the preferred web browser for Workstorm. Let’s get started.

Allowing notifications

Notifications is a popular feature in Workstorm, utilized by many members to ensure they never miss a message. It’s also an important part of the video conferencing feature. For more details on enabling, disabling and customizing your Notifications in Workstorm, check out our article on Notifications.

When you enable Notifications in Workstorm for the first time, you may see a pop-up message to allow push notifications. If you receive this pop-up, click on Allow Notifications in the pop-up message to allow push notifications in Chrome.

If you do not receive a pop-up message, you can update your browser settings manually by logging into Workstorm and clicking the icon beside the web address at the top of your Chrome browser. Here, you will see Notifications listed under Chrome settings.

Click the icon to the right of Notifications, then select Allow on this site. This allows your Chrome browser to display desktop push notifications from Workstorm.

Video Conferencing and Screen Sharing

In order to utilize Workstorm’s Video Conferencing and Screen Sharing features, it’s necessary to download the Chrome WebRTC plugin. To download the plugin, copy and paste the link below into a new tab on your Chrome browser:

WebRTC Plugin

Click on the Add to Chrome button in the upper right corner. Next, you will receive confirmation that the plugin extension has been Added to Chrome.

When you receive the confirmation message, close out of your Chrome browser. Then, re-open your browser and log in to Workstorm. The plugin should now be installed.

Allow camera, microphone and pop-ups

Once push notifications are allowed and the WebRTC plugin is installed, allow Workstorm to access your camera and microphone and allow pop-ups in Chrome.

To do this, click the icon beside the web address at the top of your Chrome browser. Make sure the drop down to the right of the Camera, Microphone, Notifications, and Pop-ups are set to Allow. Since you enabled Notifications earlier, Notifications should already be set to Allow.

Allowing notifications, downloading the WebRTC plugin, and accessing camera, microphones and pop-ups provide full functionality for Notifications, Video Conferencing and Screen Sharing for Workstorm members using Google Chrome. With your browser settings up to date, you may send and receive video calls and share your screen with other members easily and with full functionality. It’s time to start collaborating.
